Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs were a Tex-Mex band from Dallas. They are best known for their hit single "Wooly Bully." Sam the Sham, born Domingo Samudio (Sham coming from a joke about his inability to sing) formed the band in 1961. The Pharaohs were Ray Stlinnet, David Martin, Butch Gibson and Jerry Patterson.
Before recording "Wooly Bully", a song about Samusio's cat, the band recorded "Haunted House." This recording led them to a deal with MGM. "Wooly Bully" was followed by "Li'l Red Riding Hood".
The Band broke up in 1967. Sam went on with a not so successful solo career. Today he preaches and sings gospel along with an occasional oldies concert.
